The beginning of Wieliczka salt mine, one of the world's most famous mines, dates back to middle Ages. The oldest confirmation of this place at survived til nowadays is the privilege of King Kazimierz Odnowiciel, from 1044, where the city is first named Wieliczka in 'magnum sal alias Wieliczka'. It is a small underground city with many statues, chapels, richly decorated halls that were created during centuries by miners that worked here with their original tools and equipment. It has 9 levels and reaches 327m under the ground.
